Opened in 2009 in historic Downtown Crystal Lake, Lulu’s Wiggin Out clothing boutique offers a creative and fashionable twist for downtown shoppers, with upscale designer apparel, hats, handbags, gifts, home décor and wigs. While upon first glance it may seem as though you’ve wandered into a dress-up closet, the wigs at Lulu’s Wiggin Out are far from frivolous. Owner Luann Bauer is both a glamour girl and breast cancer survivor, and when she began to lose her hair due to chemotherapy she became discouraged by the lack of options available to her, along with the unsympathetic nature of most salespeople.

Luann opened the first Lulu’s Wiggin Out in Algonquin in 2005. Primarily a wig salon, this location offers customers a vast selection of over 2000 wigs and hairpieces. You will also find hats, scarves, turbans & other items those dealing with cancer so that they can “feel fabulous again!” Luann and her employees pride themselves on their sensitivity and their commitment to helping customers find the perfect hairpiece to fit their needs, the store even features a “Privacy Area” where customers can feel comfortable trying on wigs.

As a self-proclaimed “shopping queen” and lover of all things fabulous, the transition from wig salon to full boutique seemed only natural for Luann, and she brought her unique style and upscale fashions to Downtown Crystal Lake. Luann has created a place where customers can come to find clothes they couldn’t find anywhere else. She describes her own style and her eye for fashion as “different,” and offers everything from clothing, accessories, and hats to baby clothing.

Lulu’s Wiggin Out constantly brings in new designers with eclectic collections, and the exclusive selection invites shoppers to push the boundaries of their own fashion sense. “It’s fun to get people trying on thing they wouldn’t normally try on,” says Ashly, “at first they’re skeptical but after they have it on they end up loving it.” Lulu’s is the perfect boutique to find that jacket, dress or gift to spice up your wardrobe. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, a significant time for Luann and her business. Her personal struggle to overcome breast cancer is what motivated her to open both shops, and she has found a way to bring her individual experience to her business in order to provide a customized service but also to inspire creativity and confidence in her patrons. She has manifested a world of her own within the shop, where fashion is not only about how you look, but also how it makes you feel. Lulu’s will be commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness month with an event October 23rd with Mario Tricocci salon.
